Various parts of the State witnessed snowfall and rain after a gap of about two months. The higher altitude mountainous regions including the Char Dham had about three to four feet of snowfall while lower altitudes and the plains witnessed moderate rainfall on Wednesday night and Thursday. The change in weather caused the temperatures to drop by a few notches in various places. If the snow lasts long, the snowfall may also provide some relief to farmers and those in cultivation of fruits.
The State meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain/snowfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts on Friday. Snowfall is likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 2,800 metres and above in these districts today. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of dense fog likely to occur in some parts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts today.Apart from this, dry weather is likely to occur in the remaining districts of the State.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear sky with mist/shallow fog likely to occur during the morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 20 degrees Celsius and seven degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Thursday were 16.5 degrees Celsius and 10.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 17.6 degrees Celsius and 13.4 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, six degrees Celsius and 1.1 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 4.8 degrees Celsius and 1.3 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Dehradun received 14 millimetres of rain where there was 10.6 millimetres rain New Tehri, 27.5 millimetres in Nainbagh, 26.5 millimetres in Vikasnagar, 23 millimetres in Mori, 20 millimetres in Purola, 16 millimetres in Raiwala and 16 millimetres in Bhagwanpur. Those in the tourism business are enthused by the snowfall and rain with tourists expected to visit the mountains following the change in weather.
