Winners of the fifth Vijaya Agarwala Memorial Mathematics Olympiad (VAMMO-5) were awarded at a function held at IIT Roorkee on Sunday. VAMMO – 5 was part of the Indian Women Scientist Association (IWSA) golden jubilee celebrations. It is organised in memory of professor Vijaya Aggarwal, one of the founder members of the IWSA Roorkee chapter.
About 1100 students from 21 schools of Roorkee, 700 students from 15 schools of Haridwar and 470 students from six schools of Mumbai participated in the competition. The test was simultaneously held in Roorkee, Haridwar and Mumbai on November 27.
A total of 36 cash prizes, including six national prizes, certificates with medals were awarded to the participants of classes VI to IX. Five students securing first position were given Rs 2,000 each followed by six students getting second prize receiving Rs 1,500 each and seven students receiving Rs 1,000 each as the third prize. Eighteen students were awarded Rs 500 each as consolation prize.
