Submission to CM for Chhath Puja public holiday on Nov 8

The chief media coordinator of the State Congress Rajeev Mehrishi urged the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to consider the demand made by the Bihari Mahasabha for a public holiday on the occasion of Chhath Puja on November 8. “Celebrated for its culture of unity in diversity, the State respects various regional cultures of India. The Bihari community has been playing a significant role in Uttarakhand’s development for decades and no one can cite an instance of this community behaving inappropriately,” he said.

Pressing his point, he further said that the State government’s indifference to their long-time demand for a Chhath Puja public holiday has disappointed the Bihari Mahasabha, in particular, and the Bihari community people, in general. “We still hope that in deference to the collective wish of the Bihari people and the State’s rich cultural diversity, the State government will rise to the occasion and declare a public holiday on November 8. Hence, our decision to   submit a formal request to the government,” he added.

Continuing with his argument, he said that while observing the 36-hour waterless fast, it would be considerably difficult for them to attend offices and do normal works,

The core observance of Chhath Puja—characterised by this 36-hour fast—started on Wednesday and will conclude on Friday (November 8) this year.
