After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s declaration to repeal the three farm laws, demand to withdraw the Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board is gathering momentum in Uttarakhand. On one hand a faction of the association of Teerth Purohits has increased the pressure on Pushkar Singh Dhami government to take back the contentious act by asserting that it would field candidates opposing BJP in the upcoming assembly elections and on other the opposition parties including Congress, AAP and others are demanding immediate withdrawal of the act.
On Saturday the former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president and founder of Uttarakhand Vanadhikar Andolan, Kishore Upadhyaya has asked the CM, Dhami to immediately revoke the Devasthanam Board which got control of the management of Char Dhams and more than fifty other temple trusts.
He said that Dhami should take inspiration for PM Modi’s decision on contentious Farm laws and abolish the Devasthanam Board. “Not only have the teerth purohits but everyone associated with the Yatra wanted the act to be repealed,’’ he said.
Criticising the decision of handing over the present management of Temples to Devasthanam board, Upadhyaya said that due to bureaucratic interference in the functioning of the temple affairs, no priest is in a position to take any decision now.
