The temperature is set to rise in the state from the end of this month. Though there is also the possibility of light rain in various parts of the state during this time, the average temperature in Uttarakhand is expected to start rising noticeably from April 1.
As per data provided by the State Meteorological Centre, in the middle of March, the temperature recorded indicated a rise. The average maximum temperature recorded from March 21 till now is 31.5 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature recorded was 16 degree Celsius.
Explaining further, the director of the State Meteorological Centre, Bikram Singh said, “Yes, we have recorded a rise in temperature after March 21 in the state. It is a start and as per our observations, the temperature will rise more by March 29 and 30. However, there is also the possibility of light rainfall in a majority of places of Uttarakhand by March 30 or 31. This may lower the temperature a little bit.”
The meteorological centre director further said, “From April 1 the temperature will rise three or four degree Celsius above normal in the state. In the plain areas, the temperature will rise three to four degrees while in the mountains the temperature will rise by four to five degrees.”
Asked whether the rise in temperature can be viewed as the advent of summer he said, “No it cannot be said that it this marks the arrival of summer. The rise in the temperature in the middle week of March and April is normal. One or two-degree rise does not signify this. We are still recording maximum temperature which is around 30 degree Celsius while after April 1 or 2 the temperature is likely to increase and touch nearly 33 to 34 degree Celsius. When the maximum temperature will be recorded near 35 degree Celsius then only can we say that the temperature has actually risen considerably compared to the recent past. The possibility of recording such temperature rise is likely by May.”
