The birth anniversary of freedom fighter Shridev Suman, the hero of the struggle against the then ruler of Tehri, was celebrated with simplicity at his native Jaul village. People paid floral tributes at his memorial and garlanded the statue of the martyr.
The villagers and Shri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University officials paid floral tributes at the memorial in Jaul. Villagers stated that Suman’s sacrifice will never be forgotten. The university vice chancellor NK Joshi said that Suman’s personality and work will continue to inspire and make generations proud for ages to come. Being a frontier State, every citizen of Uttarakhand has a great responsibility towards the country, which has been fulfilled not only bravely but also with full responsibility by the people of this mountain State, he said. Joshi further said that working for the society with honesty and hard work would be a true tribute to Suman. He also informed the villagers about the construction work going on in the university and said that the promising students of the village had to go to other districts or States for professional education, which had a bad effect on the economic condition of their families. To solve this issue, the university is conducting employment-oriented courses at the university headquarters, which will benefit the underprivileged youth. He also assured that the university will soon conduct short-term employment-oriented vocational courses for rural women to enable them to become self-reliant.
