The leaders of Uttarakhand Congress have hailed the stay granted by the Supreme Court on the conviction of Rahul Gandhi in the defamation case. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the SC judgement has exposed the conspiracy of the BJP against Rahul Gandhi. He said that the judge of the lower court gave no reason for giving the maximum sentence to Rahul Gandhi in the case. Mahara said that Rahul Gandhi had not committed any heinous crime. He said that the entire world watched the manner in which the Union government tried to stifle the voice of Rahul Gandhi in parliament. The PCC president added that the SC has given a fitting reply to the BJP’s attempt to destroy the democracy in the country. He said that everyone has a right to raise their voice in democracy but the BJP wants to snatch this right. Mahara said that the SC judgement is historic and will be remembered by those who believe in constitution and democracy.
Former chief minister Harish Rawat said that the judgement of the SC is victory of truth and justice. The leader of opposition (LoP) in the State assembly Yashpal Arya said that the judgement of SC is the victory of truth and preservation. He added that the judgement is the victory of love over hatred. The former PCC president Pritam Singh also welcomed the decision of SC. The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Surya Kant Dhasmana termed the decision of the SC as a major setback for the fascist forces.
