U’khand gears up to host 38th National Games in 2024

The Uttarakhand administration has started preparations for the 38th National Games proposed to be held in the State next year. On Friday, the chief secretary SS Sandhu chaired a meeting held to monitor the progress of the preparation for the event at the State secretariat. In the meeting the CS directed the officers to expedite the construction works. He added that special care for maintaining the quality of the works should be taken. The CS said that since Uttarakhand is a tourism State the hosting of the National Games should be viewed as an opportunity. The players visiting the State from different parts of the country should go home carrying a positive image of Uttarakhand. He opined that the programme of Torch Relay of the National Games should be organised in every tourist town of Uttarakhand so that the tourism industry gets a boost. He suggested that the cultural programmes should be held along with these events and the State government would bear the cost of these programmes. The CS said that in order to complete the construction works in time, completion dates should be fixed in advance. He said that there would be no shortage of budget for these programmes. The CS directed that the process of purchase of the equipment, especially which would be imported from the foreign countries should start immediately. He cautioned that many times the equipment purchased from foreign countries fail to reach on time. The CS said that the high altitude Ransi stadium in Pauri should be associated with the National Games. Sandhu said that State level sports events should be organised in the State before the National Games so that the players become aware and prepared for the mega event. The CS suggested that a team of volunteers should be prepared for the games.
Special principal secretary Abhinav Kumar, secretaries Sachin Kurve, HC Semwal, additional secretary Jitendra Kumar Sonekar and others were present in the meeting.
