The health minister Dhan Singh Rawat has directed the officers of the department to conduct a massive verification drive of all the medical shops in the State. In the drive the department officials would verify the presence of the registered pharmacist in the medical stores. Rawat said on Wednesday that the State government has decided to adopt a stringent posture to prevent the sale of counterfeit medicine and drugs. He said that a massive verification drive of more than 12,500 medical stores of the State would be conducted in which physical verification of the pharmacist would be done. It is mandatory for the medical shops to have one registered pharmacist. The minister said that there are complaints that many medicine stores are being operated on the licence of one pharmacist. He said that every medical store must have one licensed pharmacist who must not be anywhere else and his license should not be used by other shops.
