Unemployed nursing graduates to rally to CM residence over unmet demands

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

In light of the long-standing demands that have remained unfulfilled and neglected by the authorities concerned for an extended period, unemployed nursing graduates have decided to hold a protest march to the Chief Minister’s residence on March 8, under the banner of the Nursing Ekta Manch (NEM). The protesters have been demonstrating for several days at Ekta Vihar, marking the 92nd day of their protest on Friday. These graduates are demanding a transparent recruitment process that favours candidates based on their year-wise seniority after completing their qualifying examinations, among other issues.

Despite approaching the CM, Health minister and other related officials, there has been no action taken regarding their demands, despite the assurances they received.

The president of the NEM, Naval Pundir stated that while it is true they have been protesting at Ekta Vihar for a long time, no action has been observed to date.

Pundir further said that to remind the authorities of their long-standing demands and to fulfill them as soon as possible, they will conduct a peaceful rally on March 8 from Bhel Chowk to the Chief Minister’s residence at 11 AM. During that time they will also submit a memorandum of their demands. He also informed that since the budget session of the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha will commence on March 9, the rally will ensure that their demands are highlighted in the House.

Additionally, he pointed out that the rally coincides with International Women’s Day, as 80 per cent of the nursing professionals are women, who play a critical role in the sector.
