Union Govt to spend Rs 64 K crore on health infra: Mandaviya

The union minister of health and family welfare Mansukh Mandaviya has said that the government will spend a sum of Rs 64,000 crore to revamp the health infrastructure in the country. The amount will be used for strengthening the network of the health centres and creating health infrastructure.

Interacting with the media-persons at the sidelines of the 15th Conference of Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFW) here on Friday, Mandaviya said that the health services have increased at a great pace in the last nine years. He informed that there were 350 medical colleges in the country in the year 2014 which now have doubled and more than 1.07 lakh medical graduates are passing out from them every year. He accepted that there is a shortage of specialists in the country but this problem is being addressed. Mandaviya disclosed that the government plans to increase the number of Post Graduate seats in the medical colleges of the country.

“ We are planning to make the PG seats equal to number of UG seats in the colleges and start new DNB courses in the country,’’ he said. On the question of challenges in providing health services in the mountainous States of the country, the Union minister said that the challenge of providing doctors in such areas can be met by opening more medical colleges and deploying local doctors. He added that technology is being used to serve the people of mountainous areas.

The minister said that e -Sanjivni portal is being used to provide tele-consultancy services in these areas. Mandaviya said that recently an experiment to transport medicines by drone was successfully conducted in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh.
