The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) will install 15.84 lakh smart prepaid meters for its consumers in the State under the RDSS scheme of the government of India. The managing director of the UPCL, Anil Kumar said that the corporation will also install smart meters at 5,912 distribution converters and 2,602 feeders. He said that the corporation has invited tenders for the smart meters and the process of preparing the business process document by the departmental committee is underway. The process of installation of smart prepaid meters at the distribution converters will commence in the month of July.
The MD said that the smart metering will encourage digitisation and automation and will help in capacity building of the power distribution system. The consumers can easily recharge their smart meters and get information regarding power consumption. These meters will help in preventing power theft and reduce chances of faults in the lines. The smart meters provide real time data to balance the power load and will help in reducing blackouts.
