Kandwal expresses concern over man concealing religious identity to lure and allegedly rape female colleague
Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) has directed the senior superintendent of police of Nainital, Pankaj Bhatt to conduct a verification drive to check the identity of people from other States living there to ensure they do not scam innocent and naive locals, especially women. The commission’s chairperson Kusum Kandwal issued this direction after taking cognisance of a matter that occurred in Haldwani in which a man Farmood allegedly pretended to be a Hindu man Anmol to befriend a female colleague to lure her into a love trap after which he allegedly raped her repeatedly, said the USCW head. She said that many men belonging to other States are allegedly concealing their religious identity to exploit local women which is quite unfortunate. She said that strict action must be taken against those who come from other States and dupe local women by concealing their religious identity and pretending to be a person from another religion.
She said that she talked to the SSP over the phone about the issue. The SSP informed her that the police have arrested the accused Farmood and will take action against him as per the law. Kandwal has also asked Bhatt to conduct an identity verification drive to identify such people across the district to prevent local women from falling prey to such people. She also appealed to families to be aware of people involved in the life of their young children and young adults to prevent them from any potential danger from such predators. Family members should be aware of those who are in contact with their children and check if some family member is going astray through social media. In such cases, counselling should be provided to the person concerned, she added.
