Woman allegedly raped by estranged husband & friends seeks justice

A woman accusing her estranged husband of raping her along with his friends has sought justice and threatened to commit suicide if he is not arrested soon. Addressing the media here at the Press Club, the woman who hails from Baraut in Uttar Pradesh said that following court directions she had earlier filed a case against her husband in the city Kotwali. She said that during January this year, her husband called her to Haridwar to settle the dispute they were involved in. The woman claimed that her husband took her to a hotel where he allegedly raped her along with two of his friends. They allegedly shot videos of her in compromising situation. Stating that she had filed a case of rape against the husband and his friends on the direction of the court when the police initially hesitated to file the case, the woman alleged that despite this the police have not taken appropriate action.
The woman said that she was married in 2008 and that her husband was seeking a divorce. She further alleged that her minor daughter is also being threatened if the woman does not agree to divorce her husband It is alleged that a similar incident is being threatened with his minor daughter if she does not give divorce. The victim said that if the accused men are not arrested, then she may have no other alternative but to commit suicide.
Haridwar superintendent of police (City) Swatantra Kumar Singh said that the allegations of the woman are being investigated. Action can be taken only after getting the evidence. Evidence has also been sought from the woman. The investigation is going on and action will be taken on the basis of the facts which emerge during the investigation, he added.
