Would adopt Gujarat model in Cooperative Banks – Dhan Singh

The Education, Health and Cooperatives minister Dhan Singh Rawat has said that the cooperative banks of Uttarakhand would be made profit making entities by employing the Gujarat model. On the third day of his Gujarat visit the minister went to the regional office of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) on Sunday where he took information about the schemes of the Gujarat state cooperative bank and NABARD. He also understood the profit model and the strategy of the Cooperative banks on reducing the NPA. The minister also discussed the ‘model cooperative village’ which is a pilot project of NABARD and the Gujarat Cooperative bank. He suggested that Gujarat and Uttarakhand should share information for betterment of the cooperative sector.

In a statement the minister said that the banks of Uttarakhand would be brought into profit by using the Gujarat model. He said that concrete efforts are being done in Gujarat to minimise the NPA of Cooperative banks due to which the banks there are in profit from the last ten years. Rawat said that in Uttarakhand many cooperative banks have performed well in the last five years due to which they were able to achieve profit. He said that the loss-making banks in the state would be brought into profit by improving their position and reduction in NPA. Rawat informed that the NABARD and Gujarat Cooperative bank are executing ‘model cooperative village pilot project in Gujarat. This project was launched by Home Minister Amit Shah on April 10, 2022. Under the ambitious project six villages and six Primary Agriculture Credit Society (PACS) are being adopted and efforts are being made to provide an income source to every family of the village. The minister claimed that such a project would also be launched in the state in near future. Rawat said that he shared the Mukhyamantri Ghasyari Kalyan Scheme, 100 per cent PACS computerisation, opening branches of Mahila Banks and providing loan at zero per cent interest rate to 6.5 lakh farmers with the Gujarat officials.

The Chief General Manager of NABARD Gayanendra Mani, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gujarat Cooperative Bank Pradip Bora, General Manager B K Singhla and others were present on the occasion.
