The cancer surgery team of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital here has claimed to have conducted a successful surgery on a 91-year-old woman who had an advanced parotid tumour. The woman had a small swelling on her neck for 30 years but it had started growing rapidly last year. When the swelling became ulcerated and began bleeding, she consulted the cancer surgeons at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital.
The hospital’s cancer surgery team comprised Dr Pankaj Garg, Dr Ajeet Tiwari and Dr Rahul Kumar. The tumour weighed 1.6 kilogrammes, the doctors said.
Speaking of the surgery, the head of the cancer surgery department at the hospital, Dr Pankaj Garg said that the patient’s mental and physical condition is more important than age. “The woman’s story serves as a reminder that with the right mindset, determination and expert medical care, it is possible to overcome even the most advanced forms of cancer,” he added.
