1 death, 62 new dengue cases reported on Saturday
Health secretary conducts surprise inspection of hospitals in Haridwar

One dengue patient died and 62 new cases of the disease were reported in the State on Saturday. According to the Health department the total number of active dengue cases is 235 at present while 858 patients have recovered. Out of the cases reported on Saturday, 29 are in Dehradun, 26 in Haridwar, five in Udham Singh Nagar and one each in Nainital and Rudraprayag districts. One patient died in Dehradun during the day, taking the cumulative death toll to 13.
Meanwhile, Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar conducted surprise inspections of the district hospital, district female hospital and sub district hospital of Haridwar on Saturday. The officer took stock of the preparation of the Health department in dealing with dengue menace. He pulled up the officers for lack of sanitation and directed them to improve the arrangements.
Kumar also visited the dengue wards and interacted with the admitted patients and their caretakers. He directed the hospital authorities to make arrangements for additional beds for dengue patients, set up isolation wards and fast treatment of the dengue patients. While inspecting the district female hospital, the officer ordered that the construction of the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) wing should be completed within a month.
Kumar also inspected the under construction building of government medical college Haridwar during his visit. He said that the medical college will be a blessing for Haridwar in the future.
