10 higher education institutes selected for centre of excellence to promote entrepreneurship: Rawat

The Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that 10 higher educational institutions in the State have been chosen as centres of excellence under the Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana (DUY) overseen by the Higher Education department with the objective of fostering entrepreneurship. Rawat emphasised the State government’s dedication to training and educating the youth with technical and soft skills. In response to the commitment, the DUY collaborated with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, within the Higher Education department framework. Its primary objective is to equip young individuals pursuing higher education with entrepreneurship skills and self-employment opportunities. He further said the government has designated 10 higher education institutions within the State as centres of excellence under the programme. These centres will serve as focal points in key sectors such as agri-food processing, AYUSH and wellness, tourism, logistics and supply chain management, biotechnology, educational technology and women entrepreneurship. The identified higher education institutions selected as centre of excellence consist of government post graduate colleges in Ranikhet, Tanakpur, New Tehri, Rudrapur, Uttarkashi, Haldwani and government technical college Paithani, as well as the Rishikesh campus of Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University, Pithoragarh campus of Soban Singh Jeena University and Doon University campus. The Education minister further mentioned that the goal of these centres of excellence is to foster the establishment of 100 start ups within the State over the next five years. He expressed optimism that these centres will play a crucial role in generating employment opportunities, promoting start ups and cultivating entrepreneurial spirit in the State.
