On the last day of the filing objections against the proposed reservation of the seats of the mayors of municipal corporations and chairpersons of municipalities and nagar panchayats regarding the upcoming urban local body polls, a large number of objections was filed, taking the total figure to about 1000, said the Urban Development Directorate. The maximum number of such objections-about 300- was received from Haridwar district which has 14 civic bodies, including two municipal corporations.
The Urban Development Directorate sources said that they would try to sort out these objections and send a report to the Uttarakhand State Election Commission by December 23. Notably, the mayor-chairman post reservation notification involving all the civic bodies of the State had been issued on December 14. However, the reservation notification had been issued for Nainital district a day later and so the last date of receiving objections is December 22.
