10,000 couples have taken advantage of ART in U’khand: Rawat

The State health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that 10,000 couples on an average in the State have utilised Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) in the State so far. “The solid implementation of ART Act-2021 and 2022 as well as the Surrogacy Act-2021 and 2022 has given hope to childless couples in the State. A total of 10,823 families across Uttarakhand have sought pregnancy treatment through Reproductive Technology (ART) services in the past three years thanks to strict monitoring and publicity by the health and family welfare department,” he said.
He further said that the number of couples who utilised ART in 2022 was 3,492, 4,198 in 2023 and 3,133 so far in the current year. Over the last three years, the majority of couples (3620) using ART technology were treated at Indira IVF. “Additionally, 1,014 couples utilised ART at Nova IVF Fertility, 735 at Care IVF Unit, 626 at Ashirvad Healthcare and Fertility Centre, 603 at Shri Mahant Indresh Hospital IVF Centre and 513 at Futela Fertility Centre among others, he said.
Besides this, 1,402 couples received pregnancy-related treatment from ART technology services in other hospitals spread across the State.
Since the implementation of ART and Surrogacy Act in 2021, 37 hospitals have been registered in the State under ART Act-2021 and 2022 and Surrogacy Act-2021 and 2022. “These hospitals are regularly inspected by the health department to prevent any violations of ART and Surrogacy Act and to stop illegal surrogacy,” he added.
He assured that the State government is committed to ensuring that childless couples receive the maximum benefit from ART and surrogacy in time to come.
