10th edition of Shaheed Memorial Cricket Tournament inaugurated at UPES

The 10th edition of the UPES’ annual Shaheed Memorial cricket tournament under Project Naman was inaugurated in the presence of the university’s chancellor Sunil Rai and vice-chancellor Ram Sharma. The university office bearers said that launched in 2020, Project Naman is meant to pay tribute to the martyrs from the Indian Armed Forces and financially support their families. They further said that this year the tournament is being organised under the project to support the family of Lance Naik Ruchin Rawat from Kunigar Bichli village in Chamoli district who was martyred during the anti-terror ‘Operation Trinetra’ in Jammu &Kashmir’s Rajouri district. As per the UPES, Project Naman aims to provide Rs 5,00,000, a job opportunity for one family member and free education to the kin of the martyr. Eight teams- UPES Blue, MDDA, Agriculture, Irrigation, Pay Jal Nigam, School Education, UJVNL and Jal Sansthan- are competing in the tournament whose final is slated on January 16.
