11 rescued after being stranded by swollen river

The police rescued 11 people who were stranded near the river in Guchhupani after the level of the river rose rapidly on Saturday. The spell of rain in Dehradun and the surrounding hills on Saturday resulted in the level of various rivers rising swiftly. This was also witnessed in the Guchhupani area.

The city control room received information about some people being stranded near the river in Guchhupani after rapid rise in the level of water in the river. A police team from Cantt Kotwali along with rescue equipment reached the site and ascertained that a total of 11 persons were stranded on the bank of the river. These included six men, two women and three children.

A team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Fire Service were also informed about the situation. Personnel of the local police along with SDRF and Fire Service rescued the 11 persons safely. Those rescued by the authorities include Vinay (11), Shivansh (8), Priya (6), Prem Singh (34), Vidya Devi (32), Rahul (28), Ashish (24- all residents of Baniyawala in Vasant Vihar police station area along with Usha Rawat, Ashish Kumar, Rajesh Singh and Pradeep Kumar- all residents of Canal Road area.
