1,200 soldiers conduct cleanliness drive in Dehradun

About 1,200 soldiers took part in the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign under the aegis of Uttarakhand Sub Area headquarters here on Sunday. According to the army, a concerted effort was undertaken with focus on cleaning of water bodies, to include Nun and Bindal Rivers which are crucial to drainage system of Dehradun city and cleaning of state highways to include Nashvilla and New Cantonment Road, recently commissioned Shaurya Sthal at Cheedbagh, Garhi market and residential areas falling on the peripheries of the Dehradun cantonment. About 1,200 all ranks of the Indian Army participated in the drive. The army also distributed free dustbins made out of plastic waste for wet waste and dry waste to the residents of Garhi cantonment. During the cleanliness drive, Doon residents including children joined hands with Indian Army personnel towards the larger cause of a clean India.

The Dehradun cantonment station commander stated that such drives play a crucial role in fostering a sense of responsibility and civic duty among citizens while exerting a positive impact on the environment, wildlife and natural ecosystem. 

In the recent past, Dehradun Cantonment has been adjudged as second best station in pan India Best Green Station Competition due to its proactive initiatives undertaken on solid waste management, community clean up drives,  public awareness programmes, sanitation hygiene initiatives,  beautification projects and collaborative partnerships with local government,  NGOs  and business community organisations.
