Chess players from across Uttarakhand showcased their talent at the 12th State Deaf Chess Championship held recently in Dehradun. The selected players, based on their performance at the championship, will represent the State at the National Deaf Chess Championship slated in New Delhi from September 17-21.
According to the officials, this championship, organised by Uttarakhand Sports Society of the Deaf (USSD) in Dehradun, was aimed to promote chess among the hearing-impaired sportspersons across the State while identifying talented players for the upcoming National Deaf Chess Championship. “Players from various districts participated with great enthusiasm, displaying discipline, sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the event,” officials said.
They further informed that the championship winners in the senior category included Gitesh Tiwari who had secured the first position in the boys’ section with 11/13 points, and Yash Agrawal who had finished second with 10/13 points. In the girls’ section, Aditi Juyal clinched the top spot with 2 /14 points, followed by Himani Joshi in second place with 1/14 point.
In the Junior Category, Aditya Singh emerged as the winner in the boys’ section with 6.5/7 points. Devansh secured the second position with 5.5 /8 points and Abhay Prakash finished third with 5 / 7 points. In the girls’ section, Apurva Nautiyal bagged the first position with 1 / 7 points.
In the Sub-Junior Category, Umar Miyan topped the boys’ section with 8.5/11 points. Ojas Dobhal finished second with 8/11 points, while Vikash Jangu secured the third place with 7.5/11 points. In the girls’ section, Gunjan Malviya won the first position with 4 /9 points, followed by Priya Pundir in second place with 1/9 point.
USSD congratulated all the winners and participants for their outstanding performances and extended best wishes to the selected players for the nationals.
