Thirteen new private schools will be established in the State under the State government’s investment policy. This will entail an investment of about Rs 680 crore and generate 2,290 employment opportunities while also providing education facilities for children lacking resources, officials said.
A meeting was held by the Education department here on Monday regarding the government’s investment policy for the education sector. Based on the views of the operators and managers of private schools, the School Education secretary Ravinath Raman and director general Banshidhar Tiwari approved the idea of opening day and boarding schools in different areas. The private school operators/managers who consented also signed an agreement with the government on the occasion.
Tiwari informed the officials of private schools that the State government has created a land bank for this purpose and the benefit of this is received on investment according to the policy made by the government. Memoranda of agreement were signed with 13 private schools for opening schools from the pre-primary to class XII. This will entail an investment of about Rs 680 crore and generate 2,290 new employment opportunities in the State, he said. The operators and managers of the private schools concerned have agreed to open their establishments in Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun, Nainital, Pauri, Tehri, Haridwar and Bageshwar districts, among other areas. They have also assured that these new schools will be opened within a period of two years.
Tiwari further informed that education provided by noted private schools in the State has been limited largely to densely populated areas in the plains. Due to this the students without resources have not been able to access the education provided by such schools which has also fuelled migration to some extent, he said.
