150th birth anniversary of Iron Man celebrated through Run for Unity

The 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel- the Iron Man and symbol of national unity- was celebrated enthusiastically across the district on Friday as National Unity Day. A ‘Run for Unity’ was organised at the district headquarters to mark the occasion. The members of the Uttarkashi Police, Gangotri Physical Academy and students from the Government Girls Inter College and several schools participated in the commemorative run.
The rally began at the Vishwanath Temple and concluded at the Police Line grounds where the programme concluded. The superintendent of police, Kamlesh Upadhyay administered the oath of national unity and integrity to all participants. The students staged a street play on drug abuse. Additionally, awareness stalls related to cyber awareness, crimes against women, new criminal laws, traffic rules and disaster management were set up at the police lines.
This aside, a ‘Run for Unity’ was organised in all the police station areas of the district in which a large number of students, local citizens, police personnel and officers and employees from several departments participated. All took an oath to uphold the unity and integrity.
