PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi distributed free electric motorised tricycles to 169 individuals with disabilities, funded under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFCL).

Joshi informed that about Rs one crore had been allocated for this purpose under the CSR programme. He emphasised that under the PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, new schemes are being launched consistently to uplift individuals with disabilities and senior citizens, aiming to make their lives more accessible, dignified and self-reliant.

He highlighted the implementation of the unique disability identification card project, which has created a centralised database for persons with disabilities and is now operational in all 785 districts across the country.

Joshi said that Pradhan Mantri Divyansha Kendras are being established nationwide, with three already set up in Uttarakhand—Dehradun, Rishikesh and Haldwani. Further, a dedicated institute has been established in Delhi to promote Indian Sign Language (ISL). The ISL dictionary, which originally contained 10,000 words, is currently being expanded to include an additional 2,500 new words in 10 languages, providing special benefits to the deaf community.

Joshi stated that this initiative is not just a distribution programme; it represents a significant step toward promoting the self-respect, self-reliance and empowerment of individuals with disabilities. Motorised tricycles will enhance their mobility and open doors to new opportunities in life.
