19-year-old labourer killed after container truck overturns

A 19-year-old labourer was killed after a container truck overturned on him near the RTO check post at Asharodi in Dehradun on Thursday morning. The accident was so severe that the labourer’s head was completely severed from his torso. A video of the accident has surfaced on social media, horrifying people.

The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Mahesh, a resident of Nandupur village in Banda district, Uttar Pradesh. Police said he worked as a labourer in Dehradun.

According to police, Mahesh was cleaning the road using a road cleaning compressor when the container truck, coming from Saharanpur, lost control and  overturned on him.

The incident took place around 150 metres before the RTO check post. Police received information about the accident through the control room and immediately reached the spot.

A container was found overturned on the roadside and the deceased was found trapped under the truck.

Police called two Hydra cranes being used by the NHAI for road-related work. The cranes were used to lift the truck. However, the man had already died after being trapped under the vehicle.

Police sent the body to Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital. His family members have also been informed about the incident.

The truck has been taken into police custody and parked at Asharodi police post. Police are searching for the truck driver, officials said.
