2 anganwadi centres to be developed as model crèches: Arya

The State minister of Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) Rekha Arya announced that anganwadi centres in Selaqui and Haridwar would be developed as model crèches for children’s development in the State. She made this announcement during a meeting with the officials concerned held on Wednesday. Several schemes related to the welfare of women and children, including ‘Nanda Gaura Yojana’, figured in the meeting.

 Arya further informed that the Centre has approved the opening of 34 anganwadi centres cum crèches in the state to take care of the children of working women aged from six months to six years under the Crèche Scheme.

In consonance with this approval, the State government has decided to develop two anganwadi centres in the state-one in Haridwar district and the other in Selaqui in Dehradun district- into model anganwadi centre or crèches.

Importantly, the Centre approved a supplementary budget of Rs eight crore for opening crèches in the State and these will be funded on one per cent cess received from the excise department.

 Arya further averred that funds for all the women-related schemes coming from both the Centre and the State government are being made available without interruption and these schemes are being implemented vigorously.

Making a strong statement against crimes against women, she said that the Uttarakhand government has zero tolerance for such crimes and perpetrators will not be spared. “We are resolved to empower every woman in the State and make her a key contributor to the State’s progress,” she said.
