2 ‘Auto Gang’ members held for mobile snatching

The Nehru Colony police arrested two members of ‘Auto Gang’ allegedly involved in mobile snatching incidents in the city and recovered two smartphones and a sharp- edged knife from their possession on Monday. Police said that the accused mainly targeted drug users travelling through desolate areas and threatened them with the knife before snatching their phones and money.
The arrested men were identified as Abhishek Yadav, 23, a resident of Lower Rajiv Nagar, and Sunil alias Chakki, 22, a resident of Mangal Basti in Lower Rajiv Nagar. Police also seized the auto allegedly used in the crimes.
Upon receiving information that the two accused were standing with an auto in an open field near the railway tracks in Roop Nagar, the police team reached the spot and found both men sitting inside the auto. Seeing the police, they allegedly tried to escape but were caught.
During the search, police recovered a sharp-edged kukri and two smartphones. During questioning, the duo was said to have admitted that they had snatched the phones from two drug users near Anandgram and Rispana bridge.
Police said both accused are also addicted to drugs and snatched the mobiles to arrange money for their drug use.
A case was registered under Sections 304(2), 317(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A separate case under Sections 4/25 of the Arms Act was also registered for possession of the illegal khukri.
