Although the year has just begun, two major dacoity cases have already taken place in the city, raising serious questions on the police vigilance. If we look at the National Crime Records Bureau data for 2024, a total of 17 dacoity cases had been registered in Uttarakhand while as per the data received from the police department, seven cases had been registered between January and May in 2025.
According to the senior superintendent of police, Dehradun, Ajai Singh, special teams have been formed to investigate the dacoity case that had occurred in the city on Saturday. “The case is being jointly investigated by the SOG and Rajpur police station and the matter will be solved soon,” he declared.
It may be noted that on Saturday, a daring dacoity had taken place at the residence of a hotel owner in Dak Patti, a posh area of Dehradun. The miscreants had held the 76-year-old mother of the hotel owner hostage and carried out the crime. At the time of the dacoity, only the domestic help and the elderly mother had been present in the house. The criminals had barged into the house by breaking a mirror.
Earlier in January, a similar incident had occurred in the Patelnagar area, where four accused had barged into the house of one Sharafat Ali and decamped with cash and jewellery worth lakhs. Later, the police had arrested all the four accused in that case.
