2-day mega start-up summit concludes at Doon University

The two-day mega startup summit under the Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana (DUY) concluded at Doon University on Wednesday. The programme commenced on February 11. This initiative by the Higher Education department marks the first-ever startup summit for student entrepreneurs in the State. 

The second and final day of the Mega Startup Summit witnessed the participation of over 75 student entrepreneurs from across the State who showcased their products and business models which were appreciated by the education institutions, investors and industry experts alike, said the organisers of the summit.  

Additionally, the second day featured three key panel discussions focused on the Entrepreneurship Curriculum based on the National Education Policy (NEP) for higher education institutions. 

Speaking on the occasion, the principal secretary, R K Sudhangshu lauded the DUY being run by the Higher Education department. He urged students to embrace entrepreneurship, fostering innovative ideas. “The transformation brought about by the DUY is helping the younger generation become self-reliant and is fostering a startup culture in the State,” he said.

Further, the vice- chairman of the Higher Education Up-gradation committee Devendra Bhasin said that higher education is no longer confined to obtaining degrees. “But it is now about equipping students with the entrepreneurial mindset necessary for self-reliance and business success,” he added. 

The director, Higher Education Anju Agarwal highlighted that this initiative is proving to be a milestone in building a robust startup ecosystem in Uttarakhand. “Institutions must now focus not only on education but also on employment generation and fostering startups,” she said.

The final day of the Mega Startup Summit facilitated interactions between students, academics and investors.
