Two pilgrims died and seven persons were injured after a jeep collided with a bus near Brahmapuri on the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway on Sunday. The injured have been admitted to the government hospital in Rishikesh.
A Himgiri Express bus was plying from Haridwar to Sonprayag when it collided with a jeep coming towards Rishikesh in the morning. There were nine people in the Bolero jeep. The Muni Ki Reti police reached the site on being informed seven injured persons who were in the jeep were sent to the hospital while two others in the jeep died.
Police station in-charge Ritesh Shah said that two of the persons in the Bolero died in the accident while the condition of the seven injured is not serious. Those who died have been identified as Somnath (27) and Pinky Das (23), both from West Bengal. Among the injured, the driver is local and one passenger is from Madhya Pradesh and while the rest are from West Bengal.
