In latest news from Dehradun, being pilloried for long for alleged inferior quality of road construction works and failure in road maintenance, the Public Works Department (PWD) suspended two executive engineers for their alleged inefficiency and lack of the sense of responsibility. The suspended engineers are Vijay Kumar and Dhirendra Kumar. It is learnt from the PWD sources that the former, working for the department’s Haldwani division, was suspended for his alleged failure to maintain good condition of roads during a high-profile programme held in Bhowali in September and his habit of skipping meetings convened by the administration. And the other executive engineer, working with the provisional PWD division in Rishikesh, was suspended for his alleged failure in road-widening and beautification works involving an important stretch of PWD road. The order to suspend the two executive engineers was issued by the secretary PWD Pankaj Pandey.
