2 Sudan nationals arrested for drug peddling, cocaine seized

The Rajpur police have arrested three drug peddlers, including two foreign nationals from Sudan, allegedly linked to the notorious Cobra Gang, during an anti-drug drive on Wednesday. Police recovered 20.92 grams of cocaine worth around Rs 20 lakh from the accused.

The accused duo from Sudan has been identified as Michael Ikka Meckson (25), who lived in Punjabi Colony near ISBT, Dehradun, and Levikiri Waniki (24). The third accused is Javed Alam.

The senior superintendent of police, Dehradun Pramendra Dobal said that upon receiving a tip-off about some members of the Cobra Gang having arrived in Rajpur on June 2 to supply cocaine at high-end parties, police intensified the drive. “Finally, two foreign nationals were arrested near Johdi Road while they were travelling on a scooter and we recovered 9.15 grams of cocaine from them,” he said. He further said that they had arrested another accused who was supposed to have helped the Sudanese duo in supplying the contrabands near CISF Tiraha on Old Mussoorie Road and recovered 11.77 grams of cocaine from his car.

During interrogation, the trio is understood to have told police that the cocaine had been brought from Delhi and was meant to be supplied at upscale gatherings in Dehradun.

Dobal said that investigations are underway to identify and arrest other members of the drug network.  He further said that in the first five months of this year, police have recovered narcotics worth nearly Rs three crore and arrested 145 drug peddlers. “Police recovered smack, cannabis and illegal weeds. Besides, all the arrested 145 drug peddlers have been sent to jail,” he added.
