20 assistant professors appointed in Govt medical colleges

 In a relief to the government medical colleges of the State suffering from the acute shortage of faculty, the State government has given its approval to appoint 20 assistant professors from the waiting list prepared by the Uttarakhand Medical Services Selection Board (UMSSB). The order for appointment of these assistant professors was given by the Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat on Friday. The government has decided to appoint seven of these assistant professors in the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), five in the Government Medical College Almora, four in medical college Haldwani, three in Government Medical College Srinagar and one in Government Medical College Rudrapur.

The Medical Education department had sent a recruitment requisition for 339 assistant professors in the medical colleges of the State to the UMSSB last year. The board conducted a process of the selection following which 171 candidates were selected and appointed in the vacant posts of assistant professors in the government medical colleges. The government has now decided to appoint 20 more assistant professors who were in the waiting list of the UMSSB.

In a statement minister Rawat said that the government is making an effort to make appointments to all the vacant posts of the faculty in the medical colleges.

The appointment of new assistant professors will help in smooth functioning of the medical colleges. It will also ensure better treatment to the patients visiting the medical college hospitals, he said.
