200-bed wing for mothers & newborns to come up in Haridwar

The State Health department has decided to set up a 200-bed wing for the care of the mothers and newborn children in Haridwar. The Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar said that the State government has decided that a sum of Rs 2,000 will be given to every woman who stays in a government hospital for 48 hours after delivery.

 He said that the new chief secretary Radha Raturi took a review meeting of the Health department after taking over the charge of CS and in it she expressed her concern for the health of the pregnant women in the state. In the meeting she directed the officers that they should ensure that every possible measure is taken for the healthcare of mother and child. Kumar said that following the order of the CS the department has taken many decisions for the welfare of pregnant women.  He said that the department has taken a decision that all the old ambulances will be replaced with new ambulances.  He said that under the National Health Mission (NHM) 226 new Doli and Palkis will be provided to the districts.

The department is also promoting the Shagun scheme for institutional deliveries. A sum of Rs 2,000 is provided to the women after delivery and stay in a government hospital. The secretary further informed that the department is providing calcium, iron and folic acid tablets to the women and monitoring of the mother and child mortality is being done.

 A standard operating procedure for monitoring the high risk pregnant women by the Asha and Anganwadi workers is being prepared. He said that the use of the one-stop centres for monitoring of child and mother’s health should be made.
