2,000 litres of diesel to be sent daily to Dharali-Harshil

The State government will send 2,000 litres of diesel to Dharali and Harshil every day. The Home secretary Shailesh Bagauli issued this instruction to the Food and Civil Supplies additional commissioner PS Pangti after taking an update on the day’s rescue operations from the Uttarkashi district magistrate Prashant Arya at the State Emergency Operation Centre here on Saturday evening. Bagauli also directed that 20 to 25 cooking gas cylinders should be sent to Harshil and Dharali.

The secretary directed officials to lay special focus on ensuring that there is no scarcity of food material in the Harshil valley. The supply should be facilitated using ponies till the road network is restored. On the request of the Border Roads Organisation, he directed that a boat be sent at the earliest to the Jal Police for search and rescue operation in Dharali.

Bagauli said that rescue and relief works continued on a war footing on Saturday with a total of 480 people being transported from Harshil and Nelang to Matli, Dehradun and Chinyalisaud towards their destinations. He said that in the four days from August 6 to 9, a total of 1,126 persons were rescued safely. Helicopters of the Army and the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority conducted a total of 127 sorties on Saturday. A total of 257 sorties have been carried out by helicopters in the four-day period mentioned, he said.

Disaster Management and Resettlement secretary Vinod Kumar Suman, additional CEO (Administration) Anand Swaroop, DIG Rajkumar Negi and other officials were also present in the meeting.
