A 27-year-old man was shot dead by an unknown assailant near his house near Lutabarh village in Ramnagar on Sunday morning. The victim was killed at about 5 AM and had two bullet wounds on his body, said the station house officer of Ramnagar police station Arun Kumar while talking to The Pioneer. The victim Arvind’s family alleged that he was killed in retribution following a dispute which had taken place about a month and a half ago. They further alleged that the police had treated the matter complacently which had resulted in the revenge killing. The Nainital senior superintendent of police Pankaj Bhatt reverted the Dhela police post in-charge Ravindra Rana and sub inspector Manisha Singh to the lines taking cognisance of the allegations leveled by the family members of the victim.
Earlier, several family members and acquaintances of the victim gathered around the police station after the victim was declared dead in the hospital. The number of people gathering around the police station continued to increase throughout the day which also reportedly caused traffic congestion in the area. The police deployed many personnel in the area to manage traffic and divert it via different routes. The people protesting outside the police station demanded the arrest of an unknown accused who had shot the victim Arvind. They were also not allowing the police to send the body for post mortem. The SHO said that the police first saw the body in the hospital and appealed to the family members of the victims to send the body for post mortem. He said that it is being said by family members and neighbours that the victim was allegedly called outside his house early in the morning and then an unknown accused shot him. This indicates that the victim possibly knew the murderer and was killed due to personal rage against him but nothing can be said with certainty so far, said Kumar. The police have registered a case and are waiting for the post mortem and other relevant reports. The police have started the investigation from all angles and will nab the accused soon, added the SHO. Meanwhile, the police assured the family members that the guilty will be nabbed as soon as possible after which they conducted the last rites of the body. According to sources, some persons have been detained by the police on grounds of suspicion while police teams have been deployed to apprehend other persons of interest.
