278 people arrested for drunk driving in Dehradun

The police have arrested 278 people for drunk driving and apprehended 585 individuals for consuming alcohol in public spaces since January 1 as part of an intensified campaign to promote public safety in Dehradun. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the police have been running a large-scale crackdown against violations related to alcohol consumption in public and on the roads, with significant results. Over the past 10 days, the police apprehended 585 individuals for drinking in public and brought them to the police station via bus.

The police imposed a penalty amounting to Rs 1.87 lakh under the Police Act. These offenders were also issued strict warnings to discourage such behavior in the future, as per Singh. He stated that the police also arrested 278 persons for drunk driving and also seized their respective vehicles to ensure compliance with the law and enhance road safety. The SSP said that the Dehradun Police’s bus service played a crucial role in facilitating these operations, allowing for efficient transport of offenders to police stations. He stated that the police are taking appropriate action to curb public nuisances, ensure road safety and maintain law and order.
