2nd Convocation of Doon University held

2102 degrees, 93 gold medals awarded. Mangla Mata, Mahant Devendra Dass conferred honorary D Lit

The Governor of Uttarakhand Lieutenant General (retd) Gurmit Singh has called upon the youth to make the country a knowledge super power again by integrating the ancient knowledge of India with modern skills.  The governor said this while addressing the second convocation ceremony of Doon University here on Wednesday. He said that the courage, dedication and energy of the youth will make India the best in every field in the world.  He opined that the synergy between foreign and Indian languages has to be recognized. 

On the occasion the Governor awarded the honorary degree of D.Lit to social worker Mata Mangala  and Mahant Mahendra Dass. He also awarded gold medals to 93 meritorious students of various disciplines.

The theme of the ceremony this year was ‘Women Empowerment’. A total of 2102 students were conferred degrees in the ceremony.

In his address to the higher education minister Dhan Singh Rawat that the government is committed to empowering women, which happens to be the theme of this convocation.

He informed that Dr Nityanand Centre of Himalayan research and study, in the Doon University campus is almost complete and would be inaugurated by December this year.

The vice chancellor of the university Surekha Dangwal said that in 12 years the student strength has gone up to 2800 in the university.

The entire ceremony was moderated by dean of student welfare H C Purohit. The registrar M S Mandarwal delivered the vote of thanks.
