3 cities register very poor AQI on Deepawali
With many citizens ignoring directions regarding bursting of green crackers only for two hours on Deepawali in six cities of the state, the air quality index (AQI) was reported to be very poor in at least three cities of the state.
According to the information provided by the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB), the AQI was measured in five cities on Deepawali. The worst was recorded in Haridwar with an AQI of 352. The second worse AQI was measured in Dehradun at 317 while the third very poor AQI was measured in Kashipur at 314. The AQI in these three cities falls under the very poor category and can lead to respiratory illness on prolonged exposure.
The AQI measured in Rishikesh and Haldwani was found to be in the moderate category. The AQI was 198 in Rishikesh and 297 in Haldwani on Deepawali.
