Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami presented smartphones to 326 meritorious girls during the Balika Shiksha Protsahan Programme organised on the occasion of International Girl Child Day on Saturday. Dhami awarded the top three girls in the high school and intermediate examinations at the district level, as well as the top girl rankers at the block level.
Dhami said that this year, girls performed exceptionally well in the board examinations, attributing their success to hard work, talent and determination. He said that 90 per cent of all students passed the class X examination, with a success rate of over 93 per cent for girls. In the class XII examination, 83 per cent of students passed, with girls achieving a success rate of over 86 per cent. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the State government has implemented a 30 per cent reservation for women in government jobs and launched various schemes, including the Chief Minister’s Women Empowerment Scheme, Chief Minister’s Mahalakshmi Scheme, Chief Minister’s Vatsalya Scheme and Nanda Gaura Yojana. These initiatives aim to support girls in obtaining government positions and becoming self-reliant through self-help groups, startups and small industries.
Additionally, the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana and others are ensuring the education, safety, and prosperity of girls. CM emphasised that girls in the State are encouraged to pursue education through initiatives like the construction of women’s hostels and a free bicycle scheme. He said that many girls aspire to government jobs. To help fulfill their dreams, the State has implemented stringent anti-cheating laws, resulting in over 25,000 youth securing government jobs in the last four years, he said.
Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya stated that, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and the efforts of the CM, significant progress has been made in women’s empowerment. The PM launched the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign, which aims to encourage the birth of girls, promote their education and support women’s empowerment.
