In latest Dehradun news, the State rural development minister Ganesh Joshi said that to further boost development of the villages across the State, the State government has approved the project of building 36 new roads under Mera Gaon Meri Sadak Yojana in villages. Reiterating the Pushkar Singh Dhami government’s commitment to full-blown rural development, Joshi said that this approval for roads is a step in this direction. “Along with facilitating job creation, ensuring self–employment and providing housing facilities for the rural populace of the State, stress is being laid on bringing the villages lying outside the ambit of PWD and PMGSY under them. If things warrant, the State government will release funds for executing this road project meant to connect villages with roads in cities and towns through supplementary budget,” he said.
Joshi further informed that under Mera Gaon Meri Sadak Yojana, villages, located one km away from the main road, would be connected by roads which would remain open in all seasons. “Last year, the State government approved road projects for 49 villages under this scheme and work on building such roads is now underway,” he said, adding that once these road projects are completed, these will not just ensure uninterrupted movement of the villagers but also help them take their agricultural produce to the markets. Consequently, the farmers’ income would be enhanced aside from helping generation of direct and indirect sources of earnings,” the minister said.
