A total of 361 community health officers (CHOs) will be appointed in the Health department in various districts of the State. After counselling, the HNB Uttarakhand Medical University has released the list of selected candidates. Officials said that the Health department will soon post these CHOs in various districts.
The Medical Health and Medical Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat informed that the State government has set a target of posting cent per cent CHOs in Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (health and wellness centres) across the State to further strengthen the health services. Last year, 1,515 CHOs were appointed in the State. Since some of them were appointed to posts of nursing officers, 379 posts of CHOs had become vacant. The Health department gave the HNB Uttarakhand Medical University the task of filling these vacancies. The university organised the CHO recruitment examination on February 25 and has released the final list of 361 selected candidates after counselling. The minister further informed that out of these candidates, 12 have been selected for almora district, 28 for Bageshwar, 29 for Chamoli, 10 for Champawat, 20 for Dehradun, 24 for Haridwar, 10 for Nainital, 60 for Pauri, 34 for Pithoragarh, 23 for Rudraprayag, 91 for Tehri, 12 for Udham Singh Nagar and eight for Uttarkashi. The list of the selected candidates will be provided soon to the chief medical officers of the districts. The chief medical officers concerned will be responsible for posting the CHOs. The posting of CHOs in all the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in the State will help in further strengthening the health services especially in the rural areas of the State, Rawat said.
According to department officials, the main task of the CHO is to provide health related facilities to the public in rural areas. This entails facilitating treatment of patients, conduct of the OPD, providing proper health advice to pregnant and lactating women. Further, they also facilitate primary treatment to victims in case of an accident. They are also responsible for working ASHA workers, ANM and Gram Pradhans to inform the public about health related government schemes and works.
