The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said while inaugurating the wrestling and hockey competitions held at the Vandana Katariya National Hockey that the State government’s focused approach had resulted in hitherto successful conduct of the 38th National Games. Also, he expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Uttarakhand to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving the State an opportunity to host the event. “All events of the National Games are progressing smoothly and the players from other States are having a positive experience in Uttarakhand,” he said. He expressed satisfaction over excellent sports facilities being provided in the State to the participants to excel themselves.
Notably, the State has moved up to the top ten in the medal table, a substantial improvement from the 25th place in the previous 37th National Games held in Goa.
“Uttarakhand is establishing itself as a sports hub. We are going the whole way to caringly hone the sporting talents in the youngsters of the State. Sports is offering an alluring career avenue for many,” he said, further mentioning the construction of various sports infrastructures in Haridwar and Dehradun, including velodromes, swimming pools and venues for cycling and other competitions, which are now held in permanent facilities rather than in makeshift structures.
While expressing concern about youth becoming prey to substance addiction, he said that they should properly occupy themselves with developing sporting skills in themselves. “This will not just set individuals free from the curse of substance abuse but help emerge a drug-free Uttarakhand,” CM observed.
