Sports minister Rekha Arya informed that many sports events in the 38th National Games will be held both day and night. She stated that preparations have been made for day-night competitions at the venues. Various competitions will take place from 6 AM until late at night.
The lighting for both outdoor and indoor events will consist of special lights, controlled by computers, to ensure that illumination does not affect the gameplay and that shadows do not disturb the athletes. The lights have been designed to provide a natural feel, she said.
She further added that in the National Games, outdoor competitions such as athletics, rugby sevens, archery, football and hockey will be conducted under these lights. Arya added that a maximum of 700 athletes will participate in the athletics events.
Popular singers Jubin Nautiyal, Pawandeep Rajan and the Pandavas Band will also perform at the inauguration. About 1,000 lights are being installed in the stadium to enhance the grandeur of the opening ceremony for a light show and fireworks. About 25,000 attendees are expected in this event, including 20 to 25 athletes and sports officials each from different States, she said.
