4 from U’khand set to compete in Paris Olympics
1 in badminton and 3 in athletics

With the 33rd Olympics slated to officially commence on Friday in Paris, an Indian contingent of 117 athletes is all set to take part in diverse categories of the game. It is being hoped that this time around, India will win a few gold medals. From Uttarakhand, four players are to compete in this largest international sports event. They are the Lakshya Sen in Badminton and Ankita Dhyani, Paramjit Bisht and Suraj Panwar in athletics.
Sen from Almora is an internationally reputed shuttler who clinched the gold medal (singles) for India in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games and secured his place among 16 qualified players for the Paris Olympics 2024. He was presented with the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2022.
An athlete from a remote village in Pauri Garhwal, Ankita Dhyani is a middle-distance and long-distance runner. She figured in the Indian athletics team for the 5000m event in 2022 Asian Games at Hangzhou in China. Qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games scheduled in Paris, she will represent India in the women’s 5000m event.
Paranjeet Singh Bisht from Chamoli district qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 by finishing ninth in the Japan walk race championship. He secured the first place in Khelo India.
Suraj Panwar from Tehri district is all set to take part in the marathon race at the Paris Olympics. He secured several medals in national and international events. He clinched the gold medal in 5000 m marathon race at the Youth Olympics 2018.
