4 killed, 3 injured as van crashes into utility vehicle

Four people were killed and three others injured as a van crashed into a utility vehicle near Mani Mai temple near Toll Plaza in Doiwala on the Haridwar-Dehradun highway on Wednesday morning. The victims were travelling from Dehradun towards Rohtak in Haryana when the accident took place.

Sharing details, police said that the accident had happened at around 10:40 AM, about 250 metres from Mani Mai temple. As per them, the Eco van rammed into the rear of a utility vehicle parked on the roadside. The injured were rushed to different hospitals. While Naresh (42), from Rohtak, was declared dead at Doiwala-based community health centre, Vinod (40), succumbed during treatment at Kailash Hospital and the driver Sompal was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Coronation Hospital, where he was also declared dead. Police said that the fourth deceased was yet to be identified while the three injured were undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

Two of the injured were identified as Vipendra Singh, (35) and Lala, (35), while the third injured remained unidentified till the time of filing this report.

One of the injured stated that the group had travelled from Rohtak to Haridwar on Tuesday night. “We visited Tapkeshwar Temple in Dehradun on Wednesday morning and were returning to Rohtak when the collision occurred,” he said, adding that the driver, Sompal, might have fallen asleep while driving, leading to the crash.
