Tuesday, 26 SEPTEMBER 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In latest news from Dehradun, four new Sainik Schools and five Kendriya Vidyalayas are likely to come up in the State. The State government has already sent proposals to the Centre in this matter following approval of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The State government officials said that they are now waiting for the Central government’s nod. The districts where the new Sainik Schools will come up as per the State government’s proposals are Pauri (at the birthplace of the Peshawar firing incident famous Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali), Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat and Dehradun. And two each of the new four Kendriya Vidyalayas will come up in Almora and Tehri Garhwal districts while one in Pauri Garhwal. Notably, there is only one Sainik School now running in the State situated in Ghorakhal in Nainital district and it is being managed directly by the Defence ministry.  Importantly, the Centre has envisaged founding 100 new Sainik Schools across the country and in the first leg, it has already approved 23 such schools. Now, in the second leg, the Centre is all set to approve the rest. The Uttarakhand government officers sound confident that the Centre will approve the four schools as proposed by the State government. Furthermore, the new Sainik Schools would be operated in the partnership mode based on the Sainik School Society model.
